The Gilmer County Genealogical Society, Inc. welcomes Ken Rush, curator for the Ducktown Basin Museum to our January monthly meeting on Thursday, January 10, at the Gilmer County Library. In the mid-1800’s, the Copper Basin; located within modern day McCaysville, Georgia and Ducktown, Tennessee; became the Southeast’s largest metal mining operation and would become the largest man-made biological desert in the nation to date. Join us as we relive the economic fervor, the disasters, and the optimistic clean-ups.
Refreshments will be served at 1:30 p.m. The meeting begins at 2:00 p.m. and will include a membership vote on updated by-laws.
